GRACIE by donnie

Gracie is Gracie Hansen. A woman who changed her world - one step at a time. At the age of 40 she became the "Queen" of the '62 Seattle World's Fair. She set out to "save the Fair (to which it was billed as the Science Fair) from science."

She went on to run a 500 seat Las Vegas style show room in Portland Oregon for five years before turning her attention on the governorship of the State of Oregon.

Her personal life was filled with many tragedies - having six babies die on her, fighting cancer and diabetes as well as the battle of weight.

But through it all, Gracie took the challenge, proved that you can do anything - maybe not with the desired outcomes, but why not at least try?

A true story for everyone - a woman who didn't care if it was a man's world, it was her world and she was going to live it

Lost History of Oregon:
A hotel by the name of 'Hoyt'
by donnie

The Hoyt Hotel was a hotel built by the Union Train Station in Portland, Oregon in 1917. The hotel was considered a 'flea bag hotel' used mainly by laborers trying to find work until Harvey Dick in 1961 put $2 million dollars into making 5 restaurants - one being a 500 seat Las Vegas-style theatre. For 9 years it was THE place for entertainment until it closed in 1972. Within the pages of this book are stories, photos and the unbelievable rise and fall of The Hoyt Hotel.
